As part of a 2006 Arkansas Department of Heritage grant competition, the Faulkner County Historical Society and the Old Conway Preservation Society co-sponsored the “Art in Architecture” project.
Phase I included a city-wide juried student art competition and Phase II was the creation of a booklet outlining a self-guided tour of Conway’s historic homes.
Conway resident Nancy Breeden Mitchell spearheaded the project, which was designed as “an educational instrument promoting the awareness and appreciation of the cultural heritage of Conway through the aesthetics of the architecture of our historic homes.” She contacted Vivian Lawson Hogue from the Faulkner County Historical Society, who secured both the Faulkner County Historical Society and the Old Conway Preservation Society (now defunct) as non-profit sponsors.
Nancy and Vivian created the Historic Homes of Conway – A Self-Guided Tour booklet with production assistance from Kim Wells. The booklet, which is on reference at the Faulkner County Library, can be downloaded here.
(The booklet was changed from its original format to create a downloadable .pdf file.)
